I really enjoy Haruki Murakami's books. This collection of seven short stories is of no exception. The stories revolve around loneliness and despair, how men would be without women, in one way or another, as their life goes empty in the absence of love.
As always, Murakami laced the stories beautifully, piercing through my thoughts, creating an antithesis, disconcerting yet exciting at the same time. Some pieces are more poignant and surreal, but without a doubt, the one I like the most is "Samsa in Love" which is the reversal story of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka (one of my favorite books). In the story, Gregor Samsa finds himself transformed from an insect to a human, full of inquisitiveness - his discovery, his thirst for learning as well as his attraction towards a hunchbacked lady.
His works never fail to put me in deep thought. The stories are character-driven, dark, poignant but beautiful and tranquilizing.
