New Year? It's just another year

All people make resolutions for the coming of new year. It has always been like this. Of course, there's nothing wrong with one's hoping that the coming year will bring greater happiness. And I hope everyone realizes his or her resolutions.
For me, New year is just another year, though. It's not so special, but I do hope I can perform better in my life. ^^
It dawned on me, a bad news I received from my debating mailing list, that a person named Rajan Rishyakaran from SMU Singapore passed away just this morning. As I am curious to know, I googled him, and I can tell he was a great debater. His blog was cool and it's so sad to see him pass away in a road accident. It must be shocking for his family as well as his best friends. Who could have told this incidence would happen? Long time ago, the wise man Solomon said: “I returned to see under the sun that the swift do not have the race, nor the mighty ones the battle, nor do the wise also have the food, nor do the understanding ones also have the riches, nor do even those having knowledge have the favor; because time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11) Indeed, unforeseen occurrence befall us. We never know what will happen to us tomorrow, cos we are like a mist appearing for a little while and then disappearing (James 4:13) .
Thus, I believe, we all always have to take precautions, and do better and improve ourselves of human being, and for me this is connected to our search of purpose of life. I always wanna have meaning in my life. Whatever we have right now, knowledge, wealth, all these are just interim, and if we pursue these all, our life won't have a great meaning, will it?
I wish I can improve myself to be better human being. A long run yet always a great resolution to go.

Boys before flowers, a modern fairytale

Boys before flowers/Boys over flowers, this is the TV series I had been watching for the past few days. It's a Korean version of serial adaptation of Hana Yori Dango (the Japanese manga). I have watched the Taiwanese Version of this, which title is Meteor Garden. Meteor Garden was so booming since my secondary school, and until now, I still like it.

Meteor Garden (Taiwan Version).

And this is Hana Yori Dango (the Japanese Version). I haven't watched this version. (sigh)

But, now, the version that I wanna highlight is Boys before flowers, i.e Hana Yori Dango Korean version. ^_^ I think it's better than the Taiwan version.

They are all very cute... Look at them in one of the scenes.

These are the casts:

1. Lee Min Ho as Gu Jun Pyo

Aw...He is my favourite character in the film, he definitely suits the character. Great act!

2. Kim Hyun Joong as Yoon Ji Hoo

He acts as the pretty guy with prince-like attitude, charming and very dedicated. He's not doing too much talking. I like him too.

3. Kim Bum as So Yi Jung

The cute guy....

4. Kim Joon as Song Woo Bin

Now, we go with the girl, the legendary woman in the film as the girl who stood against F4 (The 4 elite men in the school and everyone revers them), and made two of them fall in love with her.

5. Koo Hye Sun as Geum Jan Di

She is the main character in the film. Isn't she gorgeous and cute? I think she perfectly suits the girl's role, ordinary, energetic and when put into make up and nice clothes, she can turn into a princess.

For me, Hana Yori Dango, whatever version it is, it's very romantic. It's a modern fairytale. Especially if we watch the Korean version, there are many fancy clothes, just like a fairytale story. The storyline is shorter, and not boring at all. I love it so much!

Things I am good at

Sitting down watching Julie and Julia, um...very great movie indeed, especially cos I really like the act of Meryl Streep, I am thinking of what I am really good at. Julie and Julia in that movie are people that are superb at cooking, especially French cuisine. Julie, in particular, is a woman getting bored with her usual job, and she is turning 30, and then she decides to take cooking based on Julia's cooking book as her short term goal.
It dawned on me then, on how I am looking at myself and I know I am not good at everything. I always think of myself of more like a verbal person, u know, relying on my right brain more, and therefore, all the side-effects of the right brain attitude are in me, like lousiness, lateness, and many more. However, I also find myself as a very logical girl and somewhat very categorical, which these are obviously the left brain characteristics. Hmmm... Let's see:

1. Communication Ability
Since high school, I think I manage my study well, I exceed my friends in English study, well, I live in a country which treats English as a foreign language, so, this so called English mastery of mine can lay a good basic for any future career progress. Mom has forced me to study English even before I entered my general schools. But is this something I am really good at? Maybe I can be English teacher in here, my city, Medan, but relatively compared to others in ESL countries, like India, Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore, I am still nothing. (sigh)
Then, even when I am a debater in my country and I have done well in some competitions, still this is an average level of skill. :(

2. Cooking
Well...I don't cook, I eat. I can hardly slice onions, u know what, I would rather crush it than slice it... Gotta learn more. Mom said, I would be a stupid housewife.

3. Ballet
Well, believe it or not, Mom put me in a ballet class when I was small, but if u see me right now, U will laugh and think "Gee, Cath is ballerina!Huahahahaha!" :( Yeah, right, i am not so agile to even do ballet now, I quit.

4. Piano Lesson
Almost had my small concert, but I was afraid with my teacher before, then I quit.

5. Drawing
I also quit in the middle of lesson. It isn't my real hobby, and I feel pressed to draw which is then I told my mom I wanna quit. TT

So, now u see, why I said I am really good at nothing... I actually wanna be a writer, writer for short stories, novels, or a poet. But I still get a long way to go.
